About Us
The Electro Technical Officer (ETO) course is a Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved pre-sea training programme designed to prepare candidates for technical officer roles on merchant vessels. The 17-week classroom training provides comprehensive knowledge of shipboard electrical, electronic, control, and automation systems, with a strong focus on safety and fault management. Candidates gain an understanding of onboard equipment, operational procedures, and risk awareness required for service at sea. After successful completion of the pre-sea training, candidates join ships as trainee Electro Technical Officers and complete the required onboard sea service. On fulfilling training and assessment requirements, candidates become eligible for certification and professional employment in the merchant navy.
Why (AMET)
Choosing this Electro Technical Officer (ETO) course means selecting a training programme that is fully aligned with Directorate General of Shipping standards and the needs of modern merchant vessels. The course offers in-depth technical knowledge of electrical, electronic, and automation systems used onboard ships, supported by structured classroom learning and practical exposure. Strong emphasis is placed on safety awareness, troubleshooting skills, and real-world decision-making at sea. With a clear pathway from pre-sea training to onboard experience and certification, the programme prepares candidates for a stable, globally recognised maritime career. It is an ideal choice for aspirants seeking professional growth, technical expertise, and long-term opportunities in the merchant navy.
