Applicants must have successfully completed the 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as individual subjects from a recognized education board. A minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM is required. Additionally, candidates must have scored at least 60% marks in English either in the Class 10 or Class 12 examination, in accordance with DG Shipping guidelines.

Only candidates who have passed both Class 10 and Class 12 from a recognized board are eligible to apply.
Qualifying the IMU-CET examination is compulsory for admission.
Possession of a valid passport is mandatory at the time of admission.


Course Duration

The programme is conducted over a period of 3 years, divided into 6 semesters, and is offered as a full-time residential course.


Age Criteria

Candidates must be below 25 years of age on the date of commencement of the programme.

Age Relaxation

  • SC / ST candidates: Relaxation of 5 years

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): Relaxation of 3 years

  • Women candidates: Additional relaxation of 2 years across all categories


Medical Standards

Applicants must meet the medical fitness requirements for sea service as per prescribed maritime norms. This includes:

  • Normal physical fitness for shipboard duties

  • Eyesight standards:

    • 6/6 vision in the better eye

    • 6/9 or 6/18 in the other eye (as permitted)
      No color vision deficiency (no color blindness)

       

  • Applicants must be Indian nationals and below 28 years of age as on 20 January 2025. Candidates should have successfully completed a B.E. or B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or Electronics & Instrumentation from an AICTE-approved institution, securing more than 60% aggregate marks. A minimum of 50% marks in English at either the 10th or 12th standard is required. Applicants who have already completed an ETO course are not eligible to apply. Both male and female candidates are encouraged to apply.

    Shortlisted candidates must clear a medical examination as per Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) standards. Selected applicants are required to undergo a four-month pre-sea ETO training programme at a company-approved institute. The course fee is to be paid by the candidate. The company provides job sponsorship only, which is subject to successful course completion and continued medical fitness.

    Indicative Career Progression & Earnings

    Typically, candidates begin their journey around the age of 22 after completing a B.Tech in Electrical or Electronics disciplines and proceed to a four-month pre-sea ETO course. This is followed by 14–16 months of sea service as a Trainee ETO. After obtaining the ETO Certificate of Competency, professionals may advance to senior technical roles with sea service of 6–9 months, earning an average monthly salary of approximately ₹2.2 lakh. With further experience, ETOs can progress to higher responsibilities, with earnings reaching around ₹3.3 lakh per month, depending on vessel type and company policies.
