Eligibility – G.P. Rating (Engine)
Applicants must have successfully completed either a two-year ITI or a three-year diploma in relevant engineering or technical trades from a government-recognized institute, securing at least 50% marks in the final year. In addition, a minimum of 40% marks in English at the 10th or 12th standard is required. Candidates possessing only 10th and/or 12th standard qualifications are not eligible.
The age of the candidate should be between 17.5 and 25 years at the time of admission.
All applicants must meet the medical and physical fitness standards prescribed for sea service under applicable maritime regulations. A comprehensive medical examination, including eyesight testing, will be conducted by an approved medical authority. Candidates must have normal colour vision, unaided vision of 6/6 in each eye, a minimum height of 157 cm, and a minimum weight of 48 kg.

How to Apply / Admission Procedure
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply as per the institute’s admission guidelines. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process, which includes a personal interview, medical examination, and final evaluation. Selection is based on overall performance and compliance with prescribed standards.
As part of the admission process, all shortlisted candidates are required to undergo the Merchant Marine Personality Evaluation (MMPE), a mandatory psychological assessment introduced by the Directorate General of Shipping. This test evaluates a candidate’s suitability for a career at sea. Information regarding the MMPE test schedule and procedure will be provided to eligible candidates during the admission process.
