About Indian Maritime University Chennai (IMU Chennai)
The Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai Campus, earlier known as the National Maritime Academy, is situated on a 20-acre beachfront campus near Chennai, one of India’s major metropolitan cities. A scenic drive along the East Coast Road leads to this well-planned campus, surrounded by greenery and open coastal views.
The campus includes academic buildings, hostels, staff residences, and recreational facilities, providing a complete learning environment for students. Established in 1985 with technical support from UNDP/UNCTAD, the institute has been delivering maritime education aligned with global standards for decades. IMU Chennai is also ISO 9001:2015 certified and equipped with modern infrastructure for training both marine and port professionals.

Educational Qualification
Applicants must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), securing at least 60% overall in PCM. A minimum of 50% marks in English is required in either Class 10 or Class 12.

Minimum age: 17 years
Maximum age:
Male: General – 25 years, OBC (NCL) – 28 years, SC/ST – 30 years
Female: General – 27 years, OBC (NCL) – 30 years, SC/ST – 32 years
Age will be calculated as on 1 August 2024.
Relaxation Policy
SC/ST candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in PCM marks (not applicable to English).
A 5% relaxation in English marks is applicable to eligible Scheduled Tribe candidates from Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Medical & Eye Sight Standards
Candidates must meet prescribed maritime medical standards. Vision should be healthy with normal color perception, proper eye movement, and good binocular vision.

How to Apply
Admission to the program is offered through the IMU Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET). Candidates must secure a competitive rank in the examination to be eligible for the counselling process.
Online Counselling Process
Phase 1 – Registration & Choice Filling
Eligible candidates are required to register on the official IMU-CET counselling portal and complete the application process for Indian Maritime University, Chennai Campus. During this stage, candidates must select their preferred programs and campuses.
Phase 2 – Seat Allotment
Seat allocation is carried out based on the candidate’s IMU-CET rank, category, and seat availability. Allotments are made from the choices submitted during counselling.
Once a seat is offered, candidates must confirm their admission by paying a programme fee of ₹15,000 within the stipulated time. Please note that this fee is non-refundable and is required to secure the allotted seat.
