Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai, operates under Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Limited (SCILAL), an entity of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Applicants must satisfy one of the following academic requirements. Candidates should have passed Class 10 from a government-recognized board with English, Mathematics, and Science, securing at least 40% overall marks and a minimum of 40% in English at Class 10 or 12. Alternatively, candidates who have completed Class 12 in any stream from a recognized board with at least 40% aggregate marks are eligible, provided English, Mathematics, and Science were studied at Class 10 and English carries a minimum of 40%. Candidates who have completed a two-year ITI programme in trades such as Fitter, Machinist, Mechanic, Welder, or Turner from a DVET-approved institute with at least 40% marks in the final year and 40% in English at Class 10 or 12 are also eligible. Preference may be given to candidates who have passed Class 12 with Science subjects.
The application fee for SC, ST, and female candidates is ₹700, excluding applicable online transaction charges. A relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks (except English) is applicable for SC and ST candidates. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes from Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands may be granted a relaxation of 5% in English marks, subject to eligibility conditions.
Applicants must be unmarried and meet the prescribed eyesight standards, including unaided distance vision of 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the other eye, with normal colour vision tested using standard methods.
As per Directorate General of Shipping norms, candidates must be at least 17 years and not more than 25 years of age on the date of admission. Age relaxation is applicable as per government guidelines for SC/ST, OBC (NCL), and female candidates.
Candidates must be medically fit for sea service in accordance with applicable maritime medical regulations. Medical examinations will be conducted only by DGS-approved doctors, and the cost of medical tests will be borne by the applicant.
A total of 40 seats are available and will be allotted as per applicable reservation norms for various categories.

Applications are accepted only through online mode during the officially announced application period. Candidates must complete the application form and pay the prescribed application fee while submitting the online form. Applications without successful fee payment will not be considered.
The application fee is ₹1,000 for General/UR, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates, and ₹500 for SC, ST, and all female applicants.
Eligible candidates are required to appear in person at the allotted examination centres. Applicants must provide a valid email ID and mobile number, as all future communication will be carried out only through email and the official website.
