The Vision Behind TS Rahaman
The idea of establishing a marine training institution was conceived by Haji Ismail Yusuf, the founder of the Bombay Steam Navigation (BSN) Company. Around 1910, he envisioned creating a charitable marine school as a tribute to the seafaring community that had served his company’s vessels with dedication and loyalty over the years.
His mission was not limited to professional training alone. He aimed to provide opportunities to orphans and wards of seafarers, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, enabling them to pursue a career at sea and continue the maritime legacy of their families.
Why TSR
The entire educational framework at TS Rahaman (TSR) is designed to guide students through the transformation from academic life to a disciplined, corporate working environment. The training emphasizes preparing cadets to face real-world professional challenges with responsibility, integrity, and confidence. A key focus of TSR education is helping students understand the shift from a parent-guided lifestyle to independent self-management within the maritime industry, including workplace discipline, social conduct, and professional ethics.
Educational Qualification:
Indian citizens who have completed 10+2 (HSC) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible. A minimum of 60% marks in PCM and 50% marks in English (SSC or HSC) is mandatory. Submission of original mark sheets and Leaving Certificate with photocopies is required.
Age Limit:
Candidates must be below 25 years of age on the course start date.
Medical Fitness:
Applicants must submit a DG Shipping–approved Medical Fitness Certificate and an Eye Sight Certificate confirming 6/6 vision in both eyes with no color blindness.

Online Application Process
Candidates can apply for the course through the official online application portal by following the steps below:
Step 1:
Complete the online application form available on the official website.
Step 2:
Submit the non-refundable application and online assessment fee through the secure payment gateway using a debit card or credit card.
Step 3:
After successful submission, download and print the completed application form along with the system-generated summary for your records.
Documents Required for Submission
Applicants must send the following documents along with their application:
A printed copy of the completed application form and the generated application summary
Two recent identical passport-size photographs, with the applicant’s name and application number clearly written on the reverse side
Self-attested copies of Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and certificates (or equivalent), verified by a Government Gazetted Officer
Candidates awaiting Class 12 results may submit a bonafide certificate issued by the Head of the School or College
Attested copy of Birth Certificate as proof of date and place of birth
Online/downloaded Class XII mark sheet (once available), attested by the School Principal
Copies of sports achievements and extracurricular activity certificates (from Class VIII onwards, if applicable)
Important Guidelines (Do’s & Don’ts)
Only one application is permitted per candidate
The application form must be filled completely and in English
The candidate’s name and date of birth must exactly match the details mentioned on the School Leaving Certificate
Ensure that the postal address, PIN code, and contact details are accurate and error-free
